Jesus, the Son of God
A friend messaged me this morning asking why I believe Jesus is the Son of God. I was a little ashamed when the answer didn't just roll off my tongue. I felt like, as such a self-proclaimed Christ follower, I should know my reasons off the top of my head... But I didn't. So I did a little research and texted back and forth with one of my youth leaders a little bit and here's what I came up with:
"Do you believe in God? Do you believe in the Trinity? I think it comes down to the belief in these, specifically the Trinity. Because that means you believe that God is three persons: Father, Son and Spirit. And Jesus is the Son. But if you're asking me why I believe that Jesus specifically is the Son and not some other random man, then I'm going to ask you to consider all the prophecies He fulfilled from the Bible and the miracles He performed. He fulfilled prophecies He couldn't control, like being born in Bethlehem and being betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. And those are prophecies from the Old Testament, which was written before He was born."
I like that answer and I wanted to save it and share it for anyone else who might be struggling with that question. I think it's simple and historical yet spiritual and to the point.
I'm glad my friend asked me that because it strengthened my belief a little bit, too.
